What is the relation between Star Wars and Hanover?
Why don't you use a (probably slightly adjusted) version of the Niedersachsenlied (Lower Saxony Song) that is some inofficial anthem of real Hannover?
Aha! This is the April Fools' Day joke. I knew there'd be one! smilie

I like it - and I've been looking around for a decent version of the Imperial March, anyway. Where'd you get this one? I wanted to rewatch StarWars just for that, but then I found I've lent out my vidoes and never had thme returned...

PS: Your Majesty, you may disregard my second e-mail to you - I can't imagine you'd play two jokes on us!
Yes friends,

I'm was only joking here. The above "Letters Patent" are not valid for a variety of reasons. I just thought this would be funny.

Trying to give me a heart attack...

I didn't see that Letters Patent in my Ministry so I was very worried. I am so glad that this is not our Anthem. I say we go with our German Hanoverian friend's idea and use the old Hanoverian Anthem. It is basically the same tune as "God Save the Queen". It is lovely. DvA, Prince Heinrich of Hanover maintains a Welfen site, do you know the URL. I have corresponded with him some but I have since deleted the email. The song is on that site, if you have the link, I would be most appreciative.

Dear Sirs: Yes, I would also like to hear the Hanoverian Anthen. I have found some of the old flags used then but never thought about hunting for an anthem. My speakers are out of commission right now but will have them up and running again soon I hope. Thank you for your time. Ludwig von Helwoor
The old Hanoverian anthem is simply the tune of "God Save the Queen" with, I believe, different lyrics.

As for this Hanover, unless #3's proclamation was not, in fact, an April Fool's joke, no official anthem has yet been composed or proclaimed (to my knowledge).

A royal anthem, "Made to Last" was proclaimed in the first reign, and served as an acclamation hymn for the monarch. Whether or not it has been maintained I'm not certain. "Made to Last", a ballad by the group Semisonic, replaced the original royal anthem which was--predictably enough--"God Save the King".

In light of the fact that Hanover has had three kings in the space of two years, the irony of the anthem's title is, admittedly, somewhat amusing.
Actually, the Hanoverian anthem's melody is not taken from the British, but the other way round. The melody is by Geord Friedrich Händel and from the 19th century. It became (and still is) the British anthem when the House of Hanover ruled over Britain.

The lyrics are as follows:

Heil Dir Hannover, heil!
Freude werd' Dir zuteil,
Freude stets mehr.
Jauchze, Du Engelschor,
Dringe zu Gottes Ohr!
Mit Deinem Freudenchor:
Gebt Gott die Ehr'!

Gott gab den Freudentag,
Was tief verborgen lag,
Kam nun ans Licht.
Zage nicht, Erdensohn,
Wenn schwarz die Wolken droh'n,
Gott hälz auf seinem Thron
Waag' und Gewicht.

Er führt alles aus,
Schützt unser Welfenhaus
mit mächt'gem Arm.
Eintracht ist Gottes Band:
König und Vaterland
Reichen sich Herz und Hand
Heilig und warm.
Sir,

Those British just take all our good stuff! smilie

(oops, Hope I didn't offend all our British citizens...) smilie
