BY THE KING
A PROCLAMATION
TO MAKE FRESH PROVISION FOR THE NATIONAL ANTHEM OF THE KINGDOM OF HANOVER
JAMES R.
WHEREAS We are determined to cause the ostensible manifestations of the state to reflect and harmonize with the prevailing Anglophile cultural traditions of Our Kingdom of Hanover:
WHEREAS the National Anthem Act 2007 enacted by Our Parliament did revoke the previous provisions made for a national anthem suited to the character of this Realm and did inexplicably replace the former anthem with another that is utterly foreign in character and therefore wholly inconsistent with the cultural traditions of Our Kingdom of Hanover:
WHEREAS We are minded to correct this unseemly blight upon our national culture and to replace the current anthem of Our Realm with one that is suited to her national character:
LET IT BE KNOWN therefore that it is now Our will and pleasure to revoke the Royal Assent granted to the aforementioned National Anthem Act 2007 and to nullify the said act, which We do by this instrument by and with the consent of Our Privy Council.
AND WE DO FURTHERMORE declare that it is Our will and pleasure that the hymn "Land of Hope and Glory", with lyrics by A.C. Benson and Sir Edward Elgar, sung to Elgar's tune, according to the unique version contained in the Schedule of this Proclamation, replace the current national anthem as provided for in the National Anthem Act 2007, and that said hymn be henceforth designated as the National Anthem of Our Kingdom of Hanover.
Given at Our Court at St. George's Palace this third day of May in the Year of Our Lord two thousand and ten in the first year of Our Reign.
GOD SAVE THE KING.
The Schedule:
Land of hope and glory,
Mother of the free,
How shall we extol thee,
who are born of thee?
Wider still and wider,
shall thy bounds be set,
God who made thee mighty,
make the mightier yet!
God who made thee mighty,
make thee mightier yet!
'Tho thy way be darken'd,
still in splendour drest,
As the star that trembles
o'er the liquid West.
Thron'd amid the billows,
thron'd inviolate,
Thou hast reign'd victorious,
thou hast smil'd at fate.
Land of hope and glory,
Fortress of the free,
How shall we extol thee?
praise thee, honour thee?
Hark! a mighty nation
maketh glad reply;
Lo, our lips are thankful;
lo, our hearts are high!
Hearts in hope uplifted,
loyal lips that sing;
Strong in Faith and Freedom,
we have crowned our King!
