OPENING HYMN: "Bringing in the Sheaves"

Knowles Shaw . 1874

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3V-Z6kiODy8

Sowing in the morning, sowing seeds of kindness,
Sowing in the noontide and the dewy eve;
Waiting for the harvest, and the time of reaping,
We shall come rejoicing, bringing in the sheaves.

Bringing in the sheaves, bringing in the sheaves,
We shall come rejoicing, bringing in the sheaves,
Bringing in the sheaves, bringing in the sheaves,
We shall come rejoicing, bringing in the sheaves,

Sowing in the sunshine, sowing in the shadows,
Fearing neither clouds nor winter’s chilling breeze;
By and by the harvest, and the labor ended,
We shall come rejoicing, bringing in the sheaves.

Bringing in the sheaves, bringing in the sheaves,
We shall come rejoicing, bringing in the sheaves,
Bringing in the sheaves, bringing in the sheaves,
We shall come rejoicing, bringing in the sheaves,

Going forth with weeping, sowing for the Master,
Though the loss sustained our spirit often grieves;
When our weeping’s over, He will bid us welcome,
We shall come rejoicing, bringing in the sheaves.

Bringing in the sheaves, bringing in the sheaves,
We shall come rejoicing, bringing in the sheaves,
Bringing in the sheaves, bringing in the sheaves,
We shall come rejoicing, bringing in the sheaves,

Psalm126:6

"He who goes out weeping, carrying seed to sow, will return with songs of joy, carrying sheaves with him."

Let us pray:

O Lord who brings us to the beginning of a new week of days, give us the impetus to plant a new seed each day along our journey, that returning to the beginning of the week once more, we may see the fruit of our plantings.

Amen.

CHORAL SELECTION: "Denn Er Hat Seinen Englen"

Felix Mendelssohn

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rvuUfuwdIQs

A Reading From the Private Devotions of Lancelot Andrewes, as translated by John Henry Newman:

Godhead, paternal love, power, providence:

Salvation, anointing, adoption, lordship; conception, birth, passion, cross, death, burial, descent, resurrection, ascent, sitting, return, judgment;

Breath and holiness, calling from the Universal, hallowing the Universal,

communion of saints, and of saintly things, resurrection,

Life eternal.

°°°°°°°°°°

Blessed is the man that hath not walked in the counsel of the ungodly. Alleluia.

For the Lord knoweth the way of the righteous, and the way of the ungodly shall perish. Alleluia.

Serve the Lord with fear, and rejoice in him with trembling. Alleluia.

Blessed are all that have put their trust in him. Alleluia.

Arise, o Lord, save me, o my God. Alleluia.

Salvation belongeth unto the Lord, and thy blessing is upon thy people. Alleluia.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,

now and ever and to the ages of ages, Amen.

Alleluia. Glory to thee, o Lord.

Let us pray:

Rain down blessing upon your kingdom, O Lord. Rain down balm upon the King. Not all Hell may cancel your blessing upon your people. Not all the waters of the ocean, not all the rushing waters of Niagara may wash your balm off the King. Blessed is the man who is anointed by you. Who lives and reigns, one God, forever and ever.

Amen.

ANTHEM: "A Mighty Fortess is Our God"

Martin Luther . 1528

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EkHOzoXeL...L&index=28

A mighty fortress is our God, a bulwark never failing;
Our helper He, amid the flood of mortal ills prevailing:
For still our ancient foe doth seek to work us woe;
His craft and power are great, and, armed with cruel hate,
On earth is not his equal.

Did we in our own strength confide, our striving would be losing;
Were not the right Man on our side, the Man of God’s own choosing:
Dost ask who that may be? Christ Jesus, it is He;
Lord Sabaoth, His Name, from age to age the same,
And He must win the battle.

And though this world, with devils filled, should threaten to undo us,
We will not fear, for God hath willed His truth to triumph through us:
The Prince of Darkness grim, we tremble not for him;
His rage we can endure, for lo, his doom is sure,
One little word shall fell him.

That word above all earthly powers, no thanks to them, abideth;
The Spirit and the gifts are ours through Him Who with us sideth:
Let goods and kindred go, this mortal life also;
The body they may kill: God’s truth abideth still,
His kingdom is forever.

CLOSING PRAYER:

Lord, you bring us together in heart and voice, so, too, unite us in project and purpose, that together as one people under one king, we may renew our nation with your grace. One God, world without end.

Amen.

CONCLUDING HYMN: "I Sing The Mighty Power of God"

Isaac Watts . 1715

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u2PTglDhP...re=related

I sing the mighty pow’r of God, that made the mountains rise,
That spread the flowing seas abroad, and built the lofty skies.
I sing the wisdom that ordained the sun to rule the day;
The moon shines full at God’s command, and all the stars obey.

I sing the goodness of the Lord, who filled the earth with food,
Who formed the creatures through the Word, and then pronounced them good.
Lord, how Thy wonders are displayed, where’er I turn my eye,
If I survey the ground I tread, or gaze upon the sky.

There’s not a plant or flow’r below, but makes Thy glories known,
And clouds arise, and tempests blow, by order from Thy throne;
While all that borrows life from Thee is ever in Thy care;
And everywhere that we can be, Thou, God, art present there.

RECESSIONAL: "When The Saints Go Marching In"

Purvis/Black . 1896

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wyLjbMBpGDA

We are trav'ling in the footsteps
Of those who've gone before,
And we'll all be reunited,
On a new and sunlit shore,

Oh, when the saints go marching in
Oh, when the saints go marching in
Lord, how I want to be in that number
When the saints go marching in.

And when the sun refuse to shine
And when the sun refuse to shine
Lord, how I want to be in that number
When the sun refuse to shine.

And when the moon turns red with blood
And when the moon turns red with blood
Lord, how I want to be in that number
When the moon turns red with blood.

Oh, when the trumpet sounds its call
Oh, when the trumpet sounds its call
Lord, how I want to be in that number
When the trumpet sounds its call.

Some say this world of trouble,
Is the only one we need,
But I'm waiting for that morning,
When the new world is revealed.

Oh When the new world is revealed
Oh When the new world is revealed
Lord, how I want to be in that number
When the new world is revealed.

Oh, when the saints go marching in
Oh, when the saints go marching in
Lord, how I want to be in that number
When the saints go marching in!
