My Lords and Gentlemen,
In first coming to Hanover, I saw some of the best and most able minds come together in a spirit of harmony and patriotism, in order to begin a process of reform and revitalization. I saw Hanover at its best. But, then, I began to see the ghosts of Hanover past return in earnest. I saw a system of politics which was not as I expected, not that I didn't know of, but, that I thought had passed. Alas, I was wrong.
In accepting the office of Home Secretary, I did so out of a love for Hanover, duty to my King, and a sense of honor. However, politics was not my original calling. I came to Hanover to serve the Church, only to find, I had ungraciously neglected it in the desire to pursue reform, or simply, prevent forces which would ruin Hanover, so much so, that I even pursued it personally, to my own regret and personal pain. Politics on the field of political battle I find fully acceptable; politics entering into the very heart of the Hanoverian Church, I cannot, and shall not stomach. For this reason, with a heavy heart, I join my honorable governmental colleagues, and announce my resignation as Secretary of State for Home Affairs.
I say that my duties in Hanover shall not end. I shall join my fellow citizens in the Chamber of Parliament, and work for a better Hanover. I shall serve the King is whatever capacity he shall desire. But, I will do so with my foremost efforts placed into the heart of my Hanoverian experience, the Church.
God Save the King. God Save Hanover.
Respectfully,
Alexander von Kassel
