Monsignor von Kassel

Monsieur de Montfort,

Your application is accepted. You will be notified within the week on whether you will be granted probationary citizenship.
Probationary?

Monsignor von Kassel

Yes, it's not a kind of punishment, I assure you. Legally, after one is accepted for citizenship, one must go through a 30 day probationary period, in which one cannot vote in Parliament, so as to facilitate induction into the culture and traditions of Hanover. After said time, as Home Secretary, I decide whether a candidate is allowed to have full citizenship.
Ah! Very sensible indeed. But 30 days? Is that length of time really necessary?

Monsignor von Kassel

That is one of the debates currently going on here in Hanover. You can refer to the Whig Party Programme to see its position on the matter.
Nicholas,

Most importantly, welcome to the Kingdom of Hanover.

To answer your question directly, yes, 30 days is entirely required. The main purpose of the period is to help those who see Hanover as a valuable endeavor demonstrate that, as opposed to those who see it merely as some sort of badge to put on their uniform.

Truth be told, it should be much longer. Who has ever heard of a mere thirty days to immigrate into any nation of consequence?

HRH Duke of Gottingen
I stand corrected, your Grace.
Monsieur de Montfort,

I was sincere when I said the most important thing is to welcome you to Hanover. This matter of the probationary period will soon be ended and then be quickly forgotten. What is far more important to me, and I presume you, is getting acquainted with your fellow Hanoverians.

I would point you to the biographies page on the website, but it is in dire need of updating!

So I shall simply make my own introduction here and encourage others to do so as well.

My current standing in the Kingdom is a Royal Duke of Gottingen, a title I have held since the reign of His Majesty King Thomas. I believe it is six years now. I'm sure someone else will spill the beans so I may as well tell you I recently abdicated the Throne in favor of His Majesty King James II. Not bad for a guy who immigrated as a commoner those many years ago.

As for my official duties, I hold the office of Lord High Treasurer, which means I'm primarily responsible for the website and forums. If you experience any problems with these, please let me know. I'm also, in addition to being a member of Parliament, the Speaker of Parliament. It is my responsibility to keep order and see that the Standing Orders are properly executed.

I hold the position of Lord President of the Council, which means should something come before the Privy Council I would be required to see that it is properly handled. Thankfully, nothing ever does.

On a personal level I edit and publish the "Peer Review". It is semi-serious. That causes problems sometimes because it is not always obvious when I'm serious, and when I'm not. I'll not grant you the magic key to knowing the difference. Don't take this personally. I won't give it to anyone else either. It is more fun for me to have people guessing.

I look forward to learning more about you as we build our little nation. I am especially interested to know how you discovered Hanover?

Who knows what the future might hold for you? Anything is possible in Hanover.

HRH Duke of Gottingen

Königsmark

Nicholas,

First of all a very warm welcome to Hanover and I hope that you will be very happy here. I too am a recent addition to the kingdom and am currently serving the 30 day probationary period as you are having to do. It will soon pass and then we will both be able to play a full role in Hanover.
