My Lords and Gentlemen, I beg to introduce the following Resolution for the consideration of the House.
Quote:BE IT RESOLVED that it is the sense of this House that the Kingdom of Hanover does condemn the use of violence by the government of Iran against its own people.
We cannot bury our heads in the sand at this most auspicious time in the history of the nation of Iran.
God save the King
My Lords and Gentlemen:
I would respond to the resolution proposed by the Most Noble Duke by saying, first of all, that I fully commend the cautious and responsible behaviour of US President Barack Obama. The world is fortunate, at this moment, to have an American president who has the calm and cool sense not to rush into unfortunate incendiary statements that would only serve to negatively impact the situation on the ground in Iraq at the moment.
The very last thing the resistance (for lack of a better term) needs at this moment is for the United States to jump on this and to give the current Iranian leadership a justification for their absurd charge that this activity is somehow instigated by the West. This is a highly sensitive situation that calls for careful observation and preparation, and not for American intervention.
All of that having been said, I profoundly respect the judgment and erudition of Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi, who, speaking at the Washington Press Club earlier, expressed his hope that the nations of the world would, is a sensible way, begin to express--in non-explosive terms--their support for the resistance movement. America, however, is not the right country to lead the way on this.
Hanover is. I therefore lend my full support to the Duke of Gottingen's resolution, and I encourage my colleagues to likewise support it.
My Lords and Gentlemen, the Question is that it be so resolved. May all that are of that opinion say Content; to the contrary, Not Content.
My Lords and Gentlemen,
The contents are three.
The not-contents are zero.
The Contents have it.
The resolution passes.
God save the King.
