My Lords and Gentlemen,
I have come before you today to announce that, by His Majesty's leave, I have chosen to resign my office as Justiciar of Hanover. While this may at first seem a major upheaval, it is in fact a relatively minor change: provided we retain the confidence of this House, the current Government will remain in office (with a new head, of course), and the polices set out in the King's Speech will remain in place.
It is my hope that my resignation will not in any way impede the important work of the Kingdom. Indeed, I have reached this decision because I think the Kingdom will benefit from it: it has become clear to me that I do not have the cool head and perhaps the patience necessary to act as the public face of HM Government in this time of change.
By His Majesty's request, I will remain in office until this House has expressed its confidence in my successor. My advice to His Majesty was to appoint His Grace, the Archbishop of Bergen, and I will imminently be proposing a positive motion of confidence in him.
Therefore, in the presence of the assembled Parliament of the Kingdom of Hanover, I do hereby resign my office and title as the Justiciar of Hanover, which resignation shall become effective upon the passage of a Resolution expressing confidence in the Lord Archbishop of Bergen to serve as His Majesty's chief minister.
