THE PALACE OF ST. GEORGE
BERGEN
James Marchmain
20 May 2009
In compliance with the current laws of the Kingdom of Hanover, I will not be offered, nor will I accept any public office during the time of the thirty day probationary period for new citizens as mandated by an Act of Parliament.
Nevertheless, I have offered my services to His Majesty the King as he might see fit, and His Majesty has, in turn, requested that I serve at the Palace in an unofficial capacity as his communications liason until such time as I am able to accept a more suitable office.
His Majesty felt it needful to prevail upon me to accept this responsibility as it is his sincerest wish to immediately open a channel of communication between himself and the public. It will be impossible, however, for His Majesty to communicate with members of this community in the same, casual way he would have done prior to ascending the Throne. His Majesty is, after all, a constitutional monarch, and all due constitutional propriety must be observed. Furthermore, with respect to the Crown, there is a dignity we would, all of us, wish to preserve.
His Majesty has, therefore, this day, commanded me to invite the public to assist him in preserving the dignity of the Hanoverian Monarchy by allowing the appropriate level of distance that must exist between a Sovereign and his subjects to be maintained.
With the dignity of the Crown in mind, the decision has been made that His Majesty will no longer be accessible via telephone, email, instant message services, social networking sites, or any other form of internet or electronic communication. For security purposes, no mailing address shall be offered to the public. Furthermore, His Majesty will not personally respond to remarks posted to his attention on the discussion board provided by the Crown for the use of the public.
From this moment forward, it is requested that all His Majesty's subjects--from the highest ranking to the lowest--refrain from attempting to directly communicate with His Majesty or with members of the Royal Family through the channels that were, up to this moment, available for that purpose. With His Majesty's sincerest apologies, any such attempts to communicate with him directly will no longer be responded to.
From this moment forward, subjects wishing to send greetings or expressions of goodwill to His Majesty on suitable occasions are directed to send their greetings to the following email account:
palaceofstgeorge@yahoo.com
The same account should be used by Ministers of His Majesty's Government who wish to communicate with the Sovereign or who wish to schedule an audience with His Majesty.
All greetings sent to His Majesty at this account will be acknowledged by the Palace, so that you may be assured that His Majesty has received your communication. His Majesty will not personally respond to messages received at this account. Communications pertaining to the Government (excepting official communications from Members of the Government) should not be sent to the Palace email account, but to the Home Office. Any communications received pertaining to the Government will be automatically forwarded to the Home Office without response.
Please be aware that the Palace Communications Office is closed weekends. Also, responses will not normally be immediate. Please allow a day or so for a response to your communication.
Finally, His Majesty has asked me to thank all of you for your very generous expressions of congratulations and good wishes on the occasion of his accession to the Throne. Please be assured that His Majesty will, in due course, express his thanks to his people, personally and publicly, through an address to be posted to the public fora.
With that announcement dutifully delivered, I shall be happy to answer, on this thread, any questions concerning this policy.
Thank you.
James Marchmain
