ALEXANDER THE FIRST, by the Grace of God of Hanover and Varennes King, Duke of Gottingen, Defender of the Faith, unto the Right Reverend Vulstanius, by Divine Providence Lord Archbishop of Bergen, Primate of All Hanover, and unto all of Our loving subjects whatsoever to whom these Presents shall come, Greetings.

WHEREAS We did by an Order given in Our Most Honourable Privy Council, bearing date at Our Court of Saint George's Palace the Seventeenth day of April, in the Year of Our Lord Two-thousand and eight, constitute, erect, and establish the Lord High Steward to be one among Our Great Officers of State, and were therein pleased to order and command that he undertake the direction of all ceremonies and affairs of Our Royal Household, and regulate within Our Realm of Hanover all matters relating to heraldic symbols and ensigns; and yet the same office of Lord High Steward aforesaid, as We are informed, presently stands vacant:

KNOW YE NOW that We, of Our especial grace, certain knowledge, and mere motion, and of Our Prerogative Royal in this respect, very much confiding in his fidelity, prudence, provident circumspection, and industry, have thought fit, by and with the advice of Our Justiciar, to appoint and constitute the same Vulstanius, Lord Archbishop of Bergen, aforesaid Our Lord High Steward, enjoying all powers, privileges, and preeminences to the said office under the Laws and Customs of Our Kingdom of Hanover properly appertaining:

AND WE DO strictly enjoining command that he should present himself before Us on the Fifth day of May instant, when it shall be Our gracious pleasure to sit together with the Prelates, Great Men, and Peers of Our Realm in full Parliament, forasmuch as We do evince and design therein to appoint him unto the same office of Lord High Steward aforesaid, in meet obedience to the Laws and Constitutions of Our Realm.

IN TESTIMONY WHEREOF, We have caused these Our Letters to be made Patent, and the Great Seal of Our Kingdom of Hanover to be hereunto affixed, Witness Ourself at Our Court at St. George's this Fifth Day of May, in the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand Eight, and in the Fourth Year of Our Reign.
