Conservatives are interested in conserving what they perceive to be their nation's ethics, mores, beliefs and values.

That's why its misleading to think of Republicans as being on the Right. The Right of the political spectrum believes more in liberty than conservation. Republicans are mostly conservatives, and some of them are on the Right.
