The New Bergen Act
An Act enabling the establishment of a Hanoverian presence in Second Life.
Section 1: Definitions
“Second Life” shall mean the virtual environment developed and operated by Linden Research Inc, commonly known as Linden Lab. “Land” shall mean space within the Second Life virtual environment as defined by Linden Labs. “New Bergen” shall mean that land controlled by His Majesty within Second Life for the purposes of establishing a Hanoverian presence within Second Life. “Colony” or “the Colony” refers to New Bergen.
Section 2: Terms of Service
a. Within the colony of New Bergen, and for the purposes of all the Kingdom’s official involvement within Second Life, the Second Life Terms of Service shall be considered Hanoverian Law.
b. In the event of a contradiction between the Second Life terms of service and any past, present or future Hanoverian law, executive order, or like instrument within Second Life, the Second Life Terms of Service shall be deemed the superior law and the inferior law, executive order or like instrument shall be invalid to the extent of the contradiction.
c. The land of New Bergen was obtained in partnership with Wrath Crosby, in lease from Doug Tweak.
d. For the purposes of the Kingdom’s involvement within Second Life, His Majesty’s agreement with Wrath Crosby shall be considered Hanoverian law. In the event of a contradiction between any past, present or future Hanoverian law, executive order or like instrument, with the exceptions of Section 2, clauses a and b of this act, His Majesties agreement with Wrath Crosby shall be considered superior law, and the inferior law, executive order or like instrument shall be invalid to the contradiction.
e. For the purposes of the Kingdom’s involvement within Second Life, the terms of His Majesty and Wrath Crosby’s lease with Doug Tweak and their subsequent covenant, shall be considered Hanoverian law. In the event of a contradiction between any past, present or future Hanoverian law, executive order or like instrument, with the exceptions of Section 2, clauses a, b and d of this act, the afor said lease and subsequent covenant shall be considered superior law, and the inferior law, executive order or like instrument shall be invalid to the contradiction.
Section 3: Establishment
The Kingdom of Hanover shall establish a presence within Second Life upon those lands obtained by His Majesty the King for this purpose. This presence shall be considered a colony of the Kingdom of Hanover to be known as New Bergen and to be administered according to the provisions of this act.
Section 4: Division of Lands
a. Appropriate land for the construction of a Parliament, His Majesties palace, and other buildings deemed necessary for conduct of the Kingdoms affairs within Second Life shall be determined by His Majesty acting in conjunction with His Majesties Governor General for New Bergen, and shall be known as Zone A. These areas are considered by this act to be under the direct authority of His Majesty the King subject to Hanoverian law and tradition.
b. All other lands shall be administered by His Majesties government for the colony of New Bergen, and shall be known as Zone B.
Section 5: Colonial Administration
a. His Majesties Government for the Colony of New Bergen shall be His Majesty the King acting in conjunction with His Majesties Governor General for New Bergen.
b. His Majesties Government for the Colony of New Bergen is charged with undertaking any and all measures necessary to: b1. cover the costs of retaining the lands of New Bergen, b2. fullfill the terms of His Majesty and Wrath Cosby’s agreement, b3. meet the goals implicit and explicit in the covenant that exists on the land of New Bergen.
c. There shall be established a Legislative Assembly of the Colony of New Bergen.
d. Membership in the Legislative Assembly shall be open to all persons who lease or own land within Zone B of the Kingdom of Hanover.
e. The Legislative Assembly shall be empowered to pass laws, subject to the assent of His Majesties Governor General for New Bergen, or His Majesty the King, concerning all matters within Zone B of the Colony of New Bergen.
f. No law of the Legislative Assembly may contradict the law of the Kingdom of Hanover, including those measures adopted in section two of this act.
g. His Majesty the King, or His Majesties Governor General for New Bergen, or an officer of their choosing, shall preside at sittings of the Legislative Assembly.
Section 6: Enactment
This act shall hold the force of law upon receiving royal assent.
