My Lords and Gentlemen,
I beg to move that this House do resolve That the Kingdom of Hanover is a micronation.
This resolution is intended to finally put to rest the question of Hanover's status as a micronation, as opposed to some other term such as landless state. Personally, I do not find the word "micronation" offensive, and as it simply means "a small nation" I think it describes Hanover perfectly accurately. Just because some nations we do or have disliked consider themselves micronations does not mean that we are not one ourselves.
Lords and Gentlemen,
I wholeheartedly support the Lord High Treasurer's motion.
Our Kingdom is a micronation, and I do not believe that recognizing this in any way detracts from our endeavour. On the contrary, adopting a more widely understood term for describing ourselves will aide in in both recruitment and our interactions with other like entities.
My Lords and Gentlemen,
I would like to remind the House that no vote has been called on this Resolution. We're still a good many days away from that point.
The Honourable Count obviously objects to the resolution, perhaps he could enunciate his objections to the house?
I feel that the term has a roleplaying type of connotation. I do not mind having contact with those types of entities but I see Hanover as a landless state. A close second is educational/historical type of nation
Lords and Gentlemen,
If I may respond to the Counts valid concerns.
Simply because we would not wish to emulate the practices of every entitiy that calls itself a micronation, does not mean we are not a micronation.
What I do know however, is that we are not a landless state. We are not a state, and as the political the definition of statehood is intrinstically tied in with the control of land, there can be no landless states.
I believe what the count is trying to convey with the term landless state is "very small entity that conducts itself in some or many ways like a would be state", or to use the commonly accepted term for this definition, a micronation!
Whilst there is no doubt scope for Hanover to be an educational experience, I do not believe we are or would want to be an educational/historical entity.
We do not exist to educate people about the historical Hanover, I believe we exist because of our interest in engaging with a community that conducts itself in some or many ways like a would be state, we are a micronation!
This may seem facetious, but consider for a moment the implications of describing ourself as an educational/historical entity.
We do not recreate a historical period (although we are in parts inspired by some notion of a certain historical period), but it would become expected of us. And I do believe there is a thin line between recreation and the "roleplay" atmosphere that both the count and I wish to avoid.
The count is completely correct, we do not wish to be identified as something we are not. But although certain groups we do not wish to emulate have adopted the term micronation, I believe it i still the best term to describe what we consider ourselves to be.
My Lords and Gentlemen, the time has come to vote on this matter. The Question is that it be so resolved. May all that are of that opinion say Content, to the contrary, Not Content.
Content.
