An Act to allow Hanoverian citizens to change their legal name.

Be it enacted by the Kings’s most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Lords and Commons in this present Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:-

Section 1. Full Legal Name
clause a. A individual’s legal name is the name that appears on their birth certificate or equivalent document subject to changes made according to the laws of whatever sovereign entity to which they are subject.
clause b. Hanoverian citizens may change their legal name subject to the requirements of this act.

Section 2. Process
clause a. Any Hanoverian citizen may apply to change their full legal name by submitting the Legal Name Change Application Form, as contained in schedule one to this act, to the Ministry of Home Affairs or, in its absence, the equivalent ministry within His Majesties government.
clause b. The Ministry of Home Affairs or other equivalent ministry shall approve the application only if the application does not meet any of the grounds for rejection of a Legal Name Change Application contained in Section 3 of this act.

Section 3. Grounds for Rejection of a Legal Name Change Application
clause a. The requested name alludes to, or appears to convey any authority, position or status to which the person is not legitimately entitled.
clause b. the requested name would result in a reasonable person confusing the applicant with another Hanoverian citizen on a significant or ongoing basis.
clause c. the requested name would cause significant offence to a reasonable person.
clause d. the requested name would bring the Kingdom or any institution thereof into disrepute.

Section 4. Appeals
Any Hanoverian citizen who believes their Legal Name Change Application was unfairly rejected may appeal to the Privy Council.

Section 5. Citation and Commencement
clause a. This act may be cited as the Legal Name (changes) Act 2004
clause b. This act shall come into force upon receiving royal assent.
