Office of
THE LORD CHANCELLOR OF HANOVER
The following survey was composed by the Office of the Lord Chancellor for the purpose of gaining a better understanding of the values of Hanoverian citizens and of the 'personality' of the Kingdom of Hanover as she stands at the moment.
Although this survey is primarily aimed at Hanoverians, visitors, too, may feel free to participate in this survey. Some questions call for a simple "yes" or "no" answer, others for a more thoughtful response. Other questions still offer several options as answers: please select only from those options with the answer that most closely matches your thoughts. For example, if the question asks, "Catholic, Orthodox, or Protestant", select only one of those three; do not respond "Mormon" or "none of the above" or "other". Please respond as honestly and as completely as you can.
In order to participate, please copy and paste the questions on a reply to this topic and fill in your answers after each question.

1. What attracts you to the concept of a non-territorial nation largely based on the internet such as this one? The ability to participate in a different society and government than those of the contemporary world.
2. What attracts you about monarchy, constitutional or otherwise? Stability, especially when compared to modern parliamentary republics.
3. What do you find attractive and interesting about the Kingdom of Hanover? The intelligence of the average citizen when compared with other micronations.
4. What do you dislike or even hate about the Kingdom of Hanover? Our tendency to spend way too much time on matters of title and decorum, and to get very angry about such matters. I'm guilty of it too.
5. What are your expectations regarding the Kingdom of Hanover? That it will return to its historic heights relatively soon.
6. What is your current position(s) in the Kingdom of Hanover (if applicable)? Member of Parliament.
7. Do you like your 'job'? No. I want to do something else as soon as the basic reforms are in place.
8. Would you rather be doing something else here other than what you're doing now, and if so, what? Yes. I want to find a role that lets me do something productive, but isn't either thankless (like heraldry) or filled with annoying arguments (like parliament).
9. In the context of a nation-building community like Hanover, what are your primary interests? Government structure and procedures.
10. What does Hanover give you that participating in your 'macronation' does not? The ability to support monarchy as a practical system of government and be taken seriously.
11. Why do you think the nation nearly approached the point of collapse a couple of weeks ago? Because we were, and are still, trying to be too serious and too perfect. Hence only the very knowledgeable participate, and that results in little activity, and one or two people dominating.
12. What do you think causes people to become apathetic about Hanover? They start taking themselves, and the nation, too seriously. When they find that they can't or don't want to keep up this same level of seriousness, they stop participating.
13. Which of the following would you find the more fascinating if you could personally witness and take part in it:
b. The Speech from the Throne delivered by the British Queen at the State Opening of Parliament
14. Can you explain why you prefered the option you selected in the previous question to the other option presented? It has a history; it would be interesting even if the Queen weren't there.
15. Can you, without looking it up, name the current King of Sweden? Yes
16. Can you, without looking it up, name the current Queen of Great Britain? Yes
17. Should judges wear wigs and robes or should they dress in conservative business attire? It depends on the context. In some places, wearing wigs and robes would decrease respect for the judiciary; in places that have traditionally had them, wigs and robes should remain.
18. If you haven't already, do you plan to see the movie, "The Queen"? No
19. If you haven't already, do you plan to see the movie, "Marie Antoinette"? No
20. If Hanover were a "macronation", would her Parliament chamber be traditionally appointed with dark wood, button-tufted leather, rich carvings and elegant chandeliers or would it be a very modern chamber: sleak, utilitarian and techno-friendly? Traditionally appointed, I'd say.
21. Is there a God? Yes
22. If Hanover's state church had a denomination, would it be Anglican, Roman Catholic, Orthodox, Lutheran or Unitarian Universalist? Somewhere between Roman Catholic and Orthodox. Not Protestant, because we don't really have any Protestants that are vocal about their faith.
23. Would you rather own a Jaguar or a BMW? BMW
24. What living world leader do you most admire? Probably Queen Elizabeth II. I have very little respect for the vast majority of modern politicians.
25. What historical world leader do you most admire?
26. Scotch or Chambord? Scotch
27. Cigarette or cigar? Cigar
28. Jennifer Aniston or Jennifer Lopez? Jennifer Aniston
29. Joey or Chandler? Joey
30. Can you whistle all the airs from that infernal nonsense, Pinafore? No
31. If not, do you know whay the previous question was worded that way? (answer only yes or no; do not explain) No
32. Should kings be crowned or simply sworn-in? Crowned
33. Which would you rather see displayed in a government office: A portrait of the King in coronation robes or a portrait of the King in casual attire? Context is required. If the King is actively involved in day-to-day government, I'd say casual attire; otherwise, coronation robes.
34. Shakespeare or Kerouac? Shakespeare
35. Elgar or Elvis? Elgar
36. If you've abandoned the Kingdom of Hanover in the past, what has compelled you to return? Generally a mix of my loyalty to His Majesty and my desire to see Hanover return to its past glories.
37. What sort of things will cause you to stay and to be content as a Hanoverian? A willingness to admit that we have made mistakes in the past, and to change things.
38. Without looking it up, can you name the Hanoverian national anthem? (yes or no; do not name it) Yes
39. Can a survey like this really tell us anything at all if fewer than twenty citizens respond to it? Not according to what my Statistics teacher said, but I think yes.
40. Do you enjoy responding to surveys such as this one or do you regard doing so as burdensome? I enjoy it, and think Hanover should do lots of surveys, etc., so that government officials actually know what the people want, rather than just what the most vocal people want.
