[/dohtml]![]() Beloved Nation, For as long as We can remember people have been asking "How active should I be?" This question always puzzles Us a bit, and worries us as well. Hanover is about passion, not just duty. None are interested in having a nation of people who feel they must, out of some obligation, sign into the national forums and post. What sheer drudgery is this? But with passion, people want to be involved for the joy of just being part of the fun. The challenge for Hanover is to find the right balance of duty and passion. Passion alone soon burns out, and duty alone is just another word for agony. The question is then, how to keep the interest alive? The answer is astonishingly easy. If you will follow along We can paint a picture for you that makes the unbounded potential of Hanover to continuously generate interest clear. Imagine yourself and some friends are stranded on an island. At first you would be preoccupied with survival, but assume you find reliable sources of food and water, and a nice place to sleep. Also assume you are completely without hope of rescue. At first you would be depressed at the other things and people missing from your life, but depression would last only so long, and then you would begin to live again. There you are, on the beech with some palm trees and no internet, no electricity, no hot water, no cell phones, no cars, computers, TVs, radios, restaurants, movies, clothing stores, malls, or any of the other distractions we fill our lives with in the modern age. WHAT WOULD YOU DO? We submit to you that you would discover your creative self. People find entertaining things to do, or they create them. Few people are content to simply look at the ocean day in and day out. People just cannot help but be creative. Creativity is what we are all called to like a moth to a flame. You would create games, tell stories, make toys and do other interesting things. This is what we have here in Hanover. The opportunity to do new things, and We do not mean just political things. During Our time here in Hanover We have seen a pile of creative efforts including: - Casino - Stock exchange simulator - Unification effort - Church - Halloween tournement - News papers - Conservatory - Literary group So We know the variety of efforts in Hanover is limitless. There is only one stumbling block. Getting started. For whatever reason people carefully train themselves to conform and not make waves and don't stick out. This training has some place in the modern world to be sure, but we tend to take the idea too far and we stifle our creative nature. From personal experience I recall when I took a creative writing course. The wise instructor told the class "The hardest part of writing is just getting started." I thought she was nuts, but of course, she was right. Just starting any assignment was so difficult I thought I would lose my mind some times. Then, she also told us the secret. "Write anything. Write any stupid thing that comes into your mind. I don't care if the thoughts make sense, or have nothing at all to do with your assignment, just start moving that hand and capture some words on paper." The sheer genius of this approach was immediately apparent. Today I can write about any topic on demand. Of course, the next step is to refine these raw materials into something worth reading, and that may take a life time to master, but don't lose sight of the important lesson. JUST GET STARTED. As I consider the question "How active?" all I can ask is "Why hold back?" So then, We shall call upon the citizens of Hanover to try an experiment with Us. Make a pledge to post something, anything, for the next four weeks (weekdays only) without fail. If you have nothing to say, comment on current events. Drive the Lord Chancellor mad with 20 days of Mark Foley commentary! DO SOMETHING, and slowly the things you really want to do will blossom before your own eyes. People will build on the things posted around them. They cannot help themselves because they are, at their very cores, creative beings. We will, of course, abide by this same pledge. Starting on OCT-11 and going until NOV-8 we will post every weekday, and will comment on each post someone else makes as well. Who will join Us? Your loving Sovereign, Alexander R. ![]() [dohtml] |
