Although the Joint Committee on Unification has more or less agreed that the new entity will be called an 'Empire', it has been suggested that we use a variant of that - "Imperium".

I'd be interested to know what people think of that suggestion.
Something is stupid in the State of Denmark.

We're being told of Shireroth and Treesia and we're comparing our unification to their "merger", we're being asked to intervene in make-believe wars, we've got religious crusades being declared in Calormen and people who want us to have a "kaiser"...and now we want to call ourselves the "Imperium".

What are you doing, Tom? Imperium??? "Imperium" isn't another word for empire, "Imperium" is another word for fantasyland.

I hope everyone else can see the idiotic direction this is going is in. What type of a nation are you, Hanover? How about you, Pendronia? If you want to throw away your well-earned reputations of respectability, maturity and serious nation-building, then by all means, call our new union the "Imperium". Call the leader the Keebler Elf and ordain an androgynous hugging grand wizard to lead a mythical religion.

I know that, for myself, I have no interest in participating in a community going in the direction which this one appears to be headed in.

Thirtysomethings, twentysomethings: I know you're out there. Assert yourselves. Do you want a stronger and greater national community to result from this union or do you wan't a kids' game to emerge?

It's up to you.
"What are you doing, Tom?"

Hey, it's not me who made the suggestion! It's just a suggestion that has been made.

I'm sure the Committee will take your strong opinion into consideration.

Personally, I think your opinion is a little too strong, although I agree with you in pracitcal terms. "Imperium" does have a certain grandeur, and it is a legitimate, dictionary-approved synonym for "Empire".

That having been said, I'd much, much rather you continue to fight for the kind of nation you want to be part of, than simply leave. We have to go into this alliance, of all things, with a spirit of compromise.
In the light of the philosophies of some citizens who insist upon referring to "micronationalism" as though what we do were a hobby or a movement or of those who want many, many nations to become, ultimately, one united community, despite the vast differences which exist between various alternative nations; in the light of calls for intervention in rec-wars and bizarre religious "crusades", the word "Imperium" rings in my ears as something quite different from it's Webster's definition.

In going into this unification, it never occurred to me that I or anyone else might have to find ourselves "fighting" to maintain the very character of our community. But if it's clear that we're on our way to becoming a type of community I never cared to belong to, then there's no point in "fighting" a rising tide. It's time to move on. Outspoken views are seldom welcomed in micronations, and I'm not going to be the villain just to provide a well-argued contrast to the status quo.

I'm here until the community I enjoy belonging to is gone.
I don't think it occurred to anyone that we'd have to fight for "the very character of our community". That's been everybody's greatest concern from the very beginning. The whole reason we are uniting is because our two communities have very similar characters.

It's just that nobody else seems to think (there's still time, people - make yourselves heard!) that calling oursleves an Imperium will scar the very fabric of our character and tradition. I see how you can combine all the things you talk about and get the idea of some great plague of immaturity, but all those things are in fact rather isolated - different individuals are at the centre of each of them, and none of those individuals wants to see Hanover (or Pendronia, as the case may be) fundamentally changed.

There is no rising tide.
This is true. I am not in favor of 'Imperium' myself and would vote against it if it was pushed, but at this point it was a suggestion only.

I am a Demoncratic Royalist, and being royalist by nature makes me conservative in my feelings of nation. The other two members of the Pendronian delegation are the same, and the benefit is that we understand the importance of maintaining our own desired framework while building something that is new and more beneficial to all. Believe it or not, we are aimed to the same thing.

I get the impression that there is more to your issue than wory over the loss of a community you want be a part of and I think this is a result of frustration on your part in regards to the fact that the Unification Committee's work can't be viewed by yourself. This has now caused you to worry about what kind of monster is going to be coming out of the committee.

I can imagine that it is hard to be a part of a Kingdom in which you were once King and overseer of all to your current position where you have a more limited touch. I doubt I have the ability to convince you not to worry as much about the process. It is going along famously right now and already has been made some good progress although the real meat has not yet been touched.

Relax Your Grace, there are others who share your vision of Hanover!
Well...I dont like Imperium..Ill leave it at that...those Danes...
Well I was the one to submit Imperium and I stand by it.

Quote:What are you doing, Tom? Imperium??? "Imperium" isn't another word for empire, "Imperium" is another word for fantasyland.

your grace I thought you'd be a little more reasonable in your response.. It is very much a real world and no more fantasy than what pendronia and hanover are already.. I am not suggesting we start claiming land on Mars or something..

I'd like to see something other than "Empire" It to me is too common of a title in the Micro world. I had suggested Imperium as an alternate but would be willing to hear others.

Others have said Imperium reminds them of space.. .. well there is also the Kilingon EMPIRE the Romulan EMPIRE .. I'm sure there are others in shows other than star trek as well.

There is no name that exists that means empire or something like it. unless we make it up smilie So I would like to see something that is at least not very common and will stand out and make us look Original.

Also your Grace as you know... I am Thirty something smilie I take this all very seriously and if I wish to just have a war game or something I'd play one.. Utopia.. Merchant Empires.. etc.. ( hey look a space age game called a Empire.. OMG)

I for one I'm trying to make sure we do what is best for both our kingdoms When this was first Proposed a few months ago I was one of the ones very much against this.. I've rethought the idea but will still only support it if the basic terms that we are all looking for are met.. and those to me are We keep our individuality.

I unlike others I've dealt with understand that to get this to work we will need to compromise.. We all will have to make concessions for this union to work not just one side... one person ...whatever

I was not sure if I should post my opinions here but like his grace I too am a Loudmouth smilie and could not resist
FOLKS,

THE DUKE HAS A POINT.

Just not the one he thinks he has...

The whole union should not hinge on an acceptable name. Call the thing whatever-the-hell you want as long as it does not distract from the bigger picture. Table this issue and get on to the more important issues.

I'm requesting the Hanover delegation to stop all discussion of a name for the finaly unified entity until it is the final remaining issue.

Regards,
HM Alexander off Hanover
I disagree. While, I think the unification is the main issue...the name is also important, though the name shouldn't hold us back. I think we should work on the name...or at least get some sort of ideas of what the committee sugests. However, I will do as your majesty suggests.
