The Portrait Gallery
Part the First

Once upon a time in the mysterious Kingdom of Hanover, there lived a demented king named James whose perplexion was only added to by the fact that he knew not what any of his subjects looked like for he was unable to behold them. Determining to satisfy his understandable curiosity, King James decided that there would be a national gallery filled with the portraits of all his beloved subjects, that he might gaze upon their faces, and they upon one another's, that they might thereby come to better know and appreciate one another.

Filled with self-satisfaction at his most excellent idea, King James presented his proposal to all the King's men who looked upon it and agreed that it was good. Before the creation of the king's gallery ever came to pass, however, the King, possessed of French demons, leapt off his throne ne'er to return to it and the plan was left upon his desk where even unto this day it remains, collecting dust.

The End.

The Sequel

But then James returned one day to find his gallery blueprints in the very place he left them, and blowing the dust away, retrieved his plan and presented it to the people and their new king.

Emerging from Marchmain Palace on to the balcony from which many cats plunged to an unhappy death of yore, James held his gallery plans aloft and hollared at passersby, who looked at him and whispered to one another, "Who is that weirdo?"

Undeterred, the former king dusted off his PC and posted this story for all his fellow Hanoverians to read, inviting them to post their pictures on this thread, so that the powers-that-be might collect them, realizing at last the portrait gallery plan.

The End.
