I have attended several movies lately. The latest has been the new Amityville Horror film, which I found quite strange.
However, I have saw previews for a movie called "Kingdom of Heaven". I seems to be about the Crusades and something of the like. Its cast seems to be very good and I think this is quite a promising movie. I plan to attend it when it premiers in theatres in early May. Has anyone else saw the previews and do you plan to see it at the theatre?
With regards,
HRH PRINCE JUSTIN
Ah, haha, I thought for a moment that this was the announcement for a new micronation

Good Morning To You, Your Royal Highness, Prince Justin,
No, I have not seen the reviews for "The Kingdom of Heaven" . . .
It sounds like a very good movie . . .
Can you tell me about the reviews?
Who is in the movie - anyone I know, or are they from the newer talented actors and actresses?
Is this a remake of an older movie, or is it a brand new one?
Have an absolutely splendiferous morning . . .
It'll be interesting, at least. I haven't actually seen any trailers for it, but I read a preview in Empire - they said it was looking pretty good, IIRC, although there was some concern about the depiction of Muslims, as there always would be, with a crusades film, I suppose...
That is one thing that boils my blood. People getting so torn up over movies. Such as the anti-semitism scandal regarding the Passion of the Christ...Muslim depiction in Kingdom of Heaven...its about the Crusades. Of course the word "infidel" will be used. That stuff just gets to me, people need to grow thicker skin and get over it. If there is a direct attack on Muslims, that is different but just a movie..thats retarded.
Good Evening To You, My Gentle Friends,
Still, the movie "Kingdom of Heaven" sounds like it would be really interesting . . .
I favour Biblical movies, and I have many of them in my Video Library . . .
I also collect a lot of the big "epic" movies, "Spartacus", "Dr. Zhivago", "The Godfather, I, II, and III", "My Fair Lady", "The Sound of Music", "Ben Hur". "The Ten Commandments", "Titanic", and many others . . .
I will be very interested to see the reviews, and how well this movie does, and when it comes out on video or DVD . . .
Have an absolutely splendiferous evening . . .
Justin,
I disagree. Film is art, and good art has a message beyond its entertainment value. If films are spreading a message that is rascist or offensive or generally not nice, that's a bad thing and people should criticise it.
You're right to say that in a film about the crusades, obviously the Christian characters are going to have a pretty dim view of their Muslim adversaries. But the criticism of the film is coming at a slightly different angle: the Muslim characters and culture themselves are portrayed in a bad light. Here's a quote from Empire magazine:
Quote:UCLA profesor Khaled Abu el-Fadl, a specialist in Islamic law and history... said, "The Western characters are fully formed human beings, reflecting the whole gamut of human feeling. On the Muslim side, everyone apart from Saladin is portrayed as a mindless machine, maniacally screaming 'Allah Ackbar'."
That's just one guy's view, after reading the shooting script of the film. He might be wrong, or the film might be changed before release, but such concerns deserve to be given a fair hearing. It's important that our culture doesn't subliminally discriminate against Islam, or any other minority group.
