Honourable Delegates,
My
draft constitution is nearing completion. Does anybody have ideas for the Preamble? I'm not very good at writing such things...
Sincerely,
Lord Oldenburg
Calormen will not accept Article 45. No one should hold that power over any dominion of the kingdom and has the potential of being abused. Each dominion should have the ability to leave the kingdom.
The royal dominions are more than just districts within Hanover. We ever accpeted a unitary form of government. The domnions should share any power that is not restricted by this constitution.
ANd styling of the moanarch as King hasnt been accepted as well.
First, I would appreciate it in the future if you didn't blatantly ignore the purpose of posts - I am requesting suggestions for the Preamble, not presenting a final draft.
A majority of the delegates of this Congress support a unitary state. Naturally, in preparing my draft, I sought to create a document that would be passed. Any other course of action would be pointless and absurd.
His Majesty, not you or I, shall determine his style. On many occasions he has intimated that he wishes to be styled a King, and therefore it is that style that I have used.
Fursten,
We see a few points which need to be clarified.
The dominions are arbitrary political divisions which should be under the control of the political whole, with proper protections against abuse. The POINT of having the dominions under the joint control of the Throne, and the popularly elected Parliament is exactly that, to prevent abuse.
As for dominions leaving the kingdom, this is sheer and utter non-sense. We shall repeat this again and again until the reality is apparent to all. Micronationalism is completely voluntary. No citizens can be coerced into staying. All are free to depart when the inspiration strikes them. Dominions belong to the political structure as a whole and cannot, by their own will, separate from the whole. If the body politic deems such a separation to be in its own best interest, then it shall occur.
Abuse is a two way street. The majority may abuse the minority, and the minority may abuse the majority. The potential for separation can quickly be turned into a threat of separation. Personally, We would tell any separatists to hit the road and to kindly never return. But not all vote seeking parliament hopefuls have the resolve of being assured of a say in matters which We enjoy. Thus the potential threat of separation cannot be allowed in any nation which hopes to stand.
Finally, for the style of the Monarchy. We reserve the right to be styled as we please and Kingdom makes the most sense to Us.
Regards,
HM Alexander of Hanover
Gentlemen,
However perfect a constitution we draft, it will only work if we have trust shown on both sides. I don't think that issues about the King's title are that important. We should at least show him the respect and accept the style he wishes to be known by.
The question of leaving Hanover has been addressed by the King: there is no coercion, people are free to stay or leave as they wish.
Honourable Delegates,
I propose the following text for the Preamble, based upon that proposed by His Grace the Duke of Brunswick to Lord Munster:
Acting upon the advice of Our Congress at Bergen and with the consent of Our subjects,
In order to establish mechanisms of good government and the rule of law; to ensure justice, liberty, and security for all Our subjects insofar as We are able; to promote the progress of the Hanoverian nation, her culture and society; and to unify all Our Dominions and subjects under the law,
We Alexander the First, of Hanover, Calormen, and Athenoi King, do hereby establish this Organic Law on this the [day] Day of [month] in the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand and Four, and in the First Year of Our Reign.
Sincerely,
Lord Oldenburg
Barons, Majesty:
From The Hill, I write:
I do think Brunswick's preamble could work, I have not had time to read everything because of my current status of being away from my palace but I like Thomas of Brunswick's idea.
Also, on Royal Styling, I will step in on this matter as well. His Majesty may style himself as He sees fit, and I think King is the best way. "Kaiser" is a dream Daniel, a dream....
