Geography of Hanover

Next, we need to decide on the regions of Hanover, and what they're like geographically. Here's my list of regions, based on the currently existant Duchies and Commonwealth nations, and what I think they should be like:
Duchy of Brunswick }
Duchy of Gottingen }
Duchy of Harburg } Hanover - Mild-cold climate, coniferous and deciduous forest, rolling hills.
Duchy of Guelph }
Duchy of Claremont }
Dominion of Athenoi - Mountainous, snowy.
Empire of Calormen - Flatlands and plains, coniferous forest.

Re: Geography of Hanover

Here's the first map of Hanover's land. As you can see, the River Elbe has been extended along our border with Denmark. The Rivers Weser and Ems have been extended to join up within our territory at Bergen.

I'll produce a larger version so we can draw on the borders for Duchies and Commonwealth nations. Then we can do a physical map, too.

Okay, here's my map with different regions added. Feel free to suggest different formations - but remember:
- Bergen, the capital, is in Brunswick
- Athenoi should be pretty small, Calormen should be pretty big
- Rivers are natural boundaries.

Okay, I suppose there's no reason we can't have Athenoi in the Med. Hanover's Gibraltar, if you will. It shouldn't be too big, though.
As for Calormen, yeah, I was thinking mountains along it's northeastern border. I want Calormen to be connected to Hanover, though. It wouldn't be right to have lots of separate enclaves around Europe. The only other country I can think of that does that is Russia, with that bit of land they have next to Germany.
In historical terms, I think the best story will be if we say Hanover was part of the Holy Roman Empire, and was split into its Duchies in the Reformation.
I'll see what I can knock up over the weekend. Thanks for your imput. Remember, the main concern of all this is realism.
