My theory is this:
In order to prevent a child from learning how to lie as a young child, discouraging of playing the game make believe would make it harder for a child to grasp the concept of 'lying'. There's probably a million flaws in this but its still an interesting theory nonetheless.
What of the Easter Bunny, santa Claus and Eskimo's, should we tell them the truth about them too? That they do not exist?
Then they will grow up uncreative and without a personality and be bores.
And are sent to crappy kingdoms
Umm...Eskimos (or Eskimaux) exist.
God doesn't.
Religion is a man-made lie designed to keep people controlled and give them an illusion of morality (ah, the post-modern/post-Neitzsche perspective). Existence, and the purpose of life since then is nothing but absurd. Religion is a passion, therefore it is irrational. And since in its most core structure lacks the essential foundation of rational construction, or thus "reason," the only reasonable argument is in denying the validity of such constructed myths.
Therefore, we shouldn't lie to our kids about some God we made up to instill enough fear in us as youths to keep us from masturbating. <_<
Sincerely,
Robert P. Gresham
[p.s. - despite having the faith, i feel like playing a little advocatus diaboli today (when don't I feel like playing a little advocatus diaboli)]
I have never met an Eskimo, except perhaps a member of the Canadian football league. Most of the Inuit I have met have food the term eskimo to actually be a bit of an offensive term and as such am unsure of they are in existance of if it is but an archiac term for the inuit.
Nonethesless it was a joke, it was not meant to be mre, it was not meant to be less.
On the matter of religion I am unsure how you made tis leap except int he attempt to be controversarial, which you do well, in oirder to get a rise out of Hanoverians. Which is fine. Persoannly my dear man if you want to think of your ancestors as swinging from trees that is fine by me. I suppose I find it amusing that anyone would even after Darwins own renouncing of his evolutionary views.
I have a hard time beleive that from the realm of thre rational it is able to believe that all of the sudden out of now where random molecules came together on the off chance with no guidence to form planet's and solar systems and life ina primordial chaos that would have otherwise destoryed the chance of life. I have a hard time with science that claims not to have faith in religion when they have faith in a religion that is solely science.
When talking to people it is apparent that al people have a religion, it is simply a matter of asking where it came from, if it alll came because that is nature then science and nature is there religion. After all it is the THEORY of Evolution and the Big Bang THEORY and such, nothing that can be proven nor that havs been poven beyond a reasonable doubt.
As to your maturbating, I think if you feel that this is why religion is instilled into us and why we go to church well I am sorry but your cynical nature is somewhat disturbing.
Don't worry, Sir Wyatt, I got the Simpsons' reference.
Thank you Scott, I was starting to wonder about the culture of some of these folks.
