Statement on the Treaty With Ascalon

[font=georgia;]
JR

Earlier today I had the distinct pleasure of signing a treaty of recognition with the Most Serene Empire of Ascalon, a nation with which the Kingdom of Hanover has enjoyed a pleasant and cooperative relationship from the very beginning.

The treaty, which was signed by the Emperor of Ascalon and myself simultaneously, is the formal diplomatic continuation of a great friendship between two monarchs, two governments and two peoples. I encourage the people of Hanover to build a rapport with the people of Ascalon and with the citizens of our other diplomatic partners and close friends, including the Kingdoms of Babkha, Morovia, Toaka, Pendronia and the Empire of Corumburg.

I have invited Emperor Jason to grace us with a "state visit" and he has likewise invited me to make an official "visit" to Ascalon. This would likely involve each monarch addressing his host nation's parliament and perhaps a general address to the public in each others' general discussion forums.

I would like to congratulate my government and the members of Parliament, as well as the government and Conclave of Ascalon on the fruitful talks and negotiations, as well as the swift legislation which has, today, realized a long anticipated diplomatic achievement.

I would like to make particular mention of the efforts of Lord Brunswick, our former Minister of State and of Ascalonian Secretary of State Frederick Giles toward making this diplomatic partnership a reality.

The text of the treaty may be viewed in the Royal Gazette forum.
